Atalissa, Iowa Winnie D. Weiss, 88, died Monday, October 7, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 11, 2013 at Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in West Liberty. Winnie was born August 19, 1925 in Kewanee, Illinois, the daughter of John and Alice Wiggin Gosch. She graduated from Wethersfield High School in Kewanee. She was united in marriage to Richard Weiss on September 28, 1946. Together they farmed in the Atalissa area. Winnie had a love of cooking and sewing which led to several jobs outside the home. She taught numerous girls how to sew as a 4-H leader and also participated in many “Make it with Wool” Contests. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Atalissa where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was more recently a member of Shepherd of the Cross Church in Muscatine. She is survived by three sons: Ricky (Deb) Weiss of Atalissa, Rodney (Denise) Weiss of Eldridge, Iowa, and Randy (Denise) Weiss of North Liberty; five grandchildren: Jeremy Weiss, Emily (Brad) Peters, Andrea Weiss, Rachel Weiss and John Weiss; a great granddaughter Caitlynn Peters and a sister-in-law Ilene Gosch. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, a brother John and a sister Alice.
