Lone Tree, Iowa Thomas M. Sorden, 66, of Brainerd, Minnesota and formerly of Lone Tree passed away peacefully Friday December 25, 2015 with his family. Memorial service will be held 11:30 A.M. Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at the Lone Tree American Legion. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service at the Legion. Inurnment will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is in charge of arrangements. Thomas Merrill Sorden was born October 12, 1949 in Iowa City the son of Truman J. and Jean (Essley) Sorden. He was a graduate of Lone Tree High School, received his B.A. from Buena Vista College and a graduate of Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science. On May 29, 1970 he was united in marriage to Gretchen Harmeyer. Tom was a licensed funeral director and owned and operated Sorden Furniture and Funeral Service in Lone Tree and Riverside for many years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge, KAABA Shrine, Iowa Funeral Directors Association, Lone Tree and Riverside Chamber of Commerce, Lone Tree Parks and Recreation Board, Lone Tree Economic Development and Lone Tree School Board member. He was an avid fisherman and golfer and loved to play board games and cards. Survivors include his wife Gretchen of Brainerd, Minnesota. Two children: Benjamin Sorden of Bloomington, Indiana and Mandy (Robert) Kubik of Oakdale, Minnesota and their children Madison and T. J. Kubik. Two brothers: Stephen (Bonnie) Sorden of Lafayette, Colorado and William (Angel) Sorden of Creston, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son.
