Elizabeth “Kitty” Kettler, 77, died Friday, July 10, 2015 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Funeral service will be held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the West Branch Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. A memorial fund has been established.
Elizabeth Kay was born July 26, 1937 in Bethel Ridge, Kentucky the daughter of Luther and Pauline Hodge Godbey. At the age of 5 the family moved to Indiana. She attended school in Williamsport, Pine Valley and Winthrop. Following the death of her mother when she was 7 she lived with her father Luther and step mother Ruth. After high school she was united in marriage to Jim Poindexter and had one son Kevin. After their divorce she had lived several places before settling in West Branch and was married to Kenneth Kettler, they later divorced. She lived most of the rest of her life in West Branch. She met Lloyd Erboe and for over 33 years they have enjoyed life together.
Known as Kitty, she had several jobs, but the passion in her life was children. She started her own daycare out of her home over 30 years ago and continued up until her death. It really wasn’t a business or job, to her it was her passion. Those were not just somebody’s children, they were all her grandchildren and for most she was known as “grandma Kitty”.
She is survived by her husband Lloyd Erboe of West Branch and his daughter Lynda Amis of Arkansas. 3 sons: Keith (Laura) Kettler of West Branch and his children Kollin and Katie Bug of West Branch, Kelly Kettler and his fiancé Angel Hammond of Wheatland and his children Steven (Trena) Burtlow and their daughter Bella of Waterloo, Kelby James of Clark, Missouri and Ryanne and Elly of Wheatland. Chris (Melissa) Kettler of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and their daughter Danielle and granddaughter Myca June of Mt. Pleasant, one daughter Kathy (Keith) Noel and her children Kayla (Tyson) Humphrey and their son John Curtis of West Branch, Thomas “Peanut Butter” (Chantry) Noel and their daughter Lyla of West Branch, Kody Crow of West Branch, Cheyanne Crow of West Branch and Cassie Noel of Cedar Rapids, Sister Judy (Dick) Lade of Indiana and a nephew Chad (Amanda) Lade and their children Addison and Kinley. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother John Charles Godbey, step mother Ruth Godbey, son Curtis Kyle Kettler and step son Mike Erboe.
