West Branch, Iowa Joyce L. Pedersen, age 88, died Sunday, February 15, 2015 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Bethany Lutheran Church in West Branch. Visitation will be 4:30-7:00PM on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Burial will be at the West Branch Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Bethany Lutheran Church in West Branch. Joyce was born June 28, 1926, in Lindsborg, Kansas, the daughter of Reuben and Ethel Johnson Hagstrand. She graduated from Lindsborg High School in 1944. Before getting married, Joyce was employed as a telephone operator for AT&T. She was united in marriage to Duane Pedersen on September 11, 1954 in Lindsborg, Kansas. They farmed together in the West Branch area for many years. Joyce was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in West Branch as well as the Ruth Circle, Farm Bureau Ladies, Centerdale Club, Sewing Club, and several card clubs. She also served as a Girl Scout Leader, taught Sunday school and volunteered at the Crestview and Cookson Nursing Homes. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed attending Iowa football games with Duane. In her later years, Joyce enjoyed spending time listening to talking books, receiving visitors, and participating in activities at Crestview. She is survived by two sons: Kent (Andrea) Pedersen of West Branch and Kirk (Jill) Pedersen of Warrensburg, Missouri; a daughter, Brenda (Ken) Wagner of Delmar, Iowa and Ken’s daughter Elizabeth of Minnesota. She is also survived by her 3 grandchildren: Jodi, J.D. and Amber and a brother-in-law Jack Turner of Wichita, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband Duane Pedersen, a sister Isla Turner and a brother Melvin Hagstrand.
