Obituary of Wayne Delmar Carney

Wayne Carney, 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday evening, November 26, 2023, at Windmill Manor Nursing Home in Coralville.

At his request no services will be held, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.  

He was born March 1, 1938, in Iowa City the son of Willard Sr. and Nona (Wildman) Carney. On June 1, 1956, he was united in marriage to Doris Dohrer in Iowa City.

Wayne was employed with Nall Motors in Iowa City where he drove a wrecker, later Meyers Motors, Hartwig Motors, C&C Body Shop in West Liberty, and Winebrenner Ford in Iowa City. Following his retirement he worked at Herbert Hoover Presidential Library for many years. He loved driving his red convertible in parades, loved pets especially Katy, his dog who went everywhere with him. He was an avid gardener too.

He is survived by his wife Doris Carney of Iowa City, one daughter Lori Clark of Hazelwood, Missouri, a brother Bill (Benita) Carney of Iowa City, two sisters: Dinah Cassabaum of West Branch and Delores Wellman of West Liberty and his cat Patches. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers: Willard Jr. “Sonny”, Walter, and Leonard, and two sisters: Bonnie and Susan, brother-in-law: Larry Cassabaum, sister in laws: Dorothy Carney and Carol Carney.
