We are saddened to read that our dear friend Dr. Charles Andrews has passed away, albeit at the distinguished age of 90. Charles and his late wife Chantal were fellow members of St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Ridgecrest, California. When the church was unfortunately isolated by a schism in a larger portion of the denomination, Charles led the way to keep the small number of remaining Episcopalians together. His home was our initial hub, after which we transitioned to a community building where our congregation grew. Charles and Chantal were generous hosts. The congregation urged Charles to be the Senior Warden and, essentially, the lay leader of the parish temporarily named All Souls Episcopal Church. Due to his limited eyesight, Charles asked me (Susan) to be his Junior Warden and assist with worship services and administration. Since Charles was a member of the devout Brotherhood of St. Andrew and a faithful Episcopalian who could recite the entire service from memory, he was steady at the helm of our group. He led by example with integrity and grace. We learned so much about faith, determination, and compassion from him. He also endeared himself to everyone with his artistic talent, warm humor, and gentle approach. We have admired him deeply and will treasure his memory always.
We send our sincere sympathy to his family. Thank you for sharing Charles with us.

Dr. Charles became a dear friend during our mutual stay at Grand Living where we usually dined together at "The Grumpy Old Men's Table." My son, who visited occasionally from his home in Kentucky also developed a great fondness for Charles. He will be sorely missed from the Grand Living family. We pray that he is in eternal peace.
