I was sad to hear of Darla’s death last year. I did not hear of her passing from this earth until much later. As just second cousins we did not see each other often over the years, except at special family gatherings or reunions. But the memories I do have of her are all pleasant ones: in our interactions she was always kind, friendly, and gentle. I do have one funny memory of her…at one of our family gatherings in Des Moines at her parents home (my Uncle Lowell and Aunt Blanche) when Darla was in college she had to leave and said goodbye to everyone. She then headed out to the driveway and got in her car. We all assumed she had left, but after a few minutes she came back into the house and asked for some assistance with her car. She said after getting in she looked up at the rear view mirror before backing out and the mirror just fell off onto the dash with a crash! She laughed at herself saying she didn’t know she was so ugly, or something like that. Of course she was not anything like that, having a natural beauty with a pretty face. She knew how to laugh at herself if needed. A good character quality to have! Lovely signed: Rick Reger
