West Liberty, Iowa

Jeannette E. Iske, 92, passed away Monday, February 6, 2023 at Premier Estates in Muscatine.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Jeannette Iske Memorial Fund.

Jeannette was born August 1, 1930 the daughter of Loren and Helen (Igo) Ogan. She was a 1948 graduate of Indianola High School, received her teaching certificate from Simpson College in Indianola and later received her BA from Drake University. On March 25, 1951 she was united in marriage to Jack Iske in Indianola.

Jeannette spent her life teaching; beginning in Newton 1951-1964, Bondurant for 3 years before moving to West Liberty in 1969 and retiring in 2001. Following her retirement she worked with the University of Iowa as a mentor for student teachers who were doing their practicum in the local school system, several of which currently are teaching in West Liberty. In her early years she was a dancer and after retirement began tap dancing with a group in Iowa City who would visit elementary schools tapping for the student which she did until age 83. She had been a long-time member of the West Liberty Country Club, enjoyed sewing, reading and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.

She is survived by her daughter Joey, three grandchildren: Sean Iske, Jason Iske and Tanner Iske as well as 5 great grandchildren: Bryson, Cameron, Elle, Jayna and Rhys. Two sisters: Lorenelle Howe of West Des Moines, Iowa and Diane Gernandt of Sedro Woolley, Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack and son Jeff.
