I remembered the good times as kids when we would come from Virginia and go to my Grandparents in Springdale. Gary , Brenda and Larry would come over and loved playing with them all. Later when I was grownup and we came to Iowa I remembered going to Gary’s house and the wonderful meal and great times we would have. Our prayers are with you all during this time.

My condolences to Larry and the rest of the family. Gary was a line supervisor and mechanic I worked with when I first got hired by P&G out of high school. He consistently set the example for dedication and helped a lot of us young guys in staying on track.

Gary was more than a cousin to me. Although I lived in Virginia my grandparents lived in Springdale. Every Summer, until high school graduation, I would spend 2 - 3 weeks there. I was either at Gary's parents house or Gary, Brenda & Larry would be in Springdale playing during those hot summer days. Later in life (2005), Becky & I hosted a "cousins" reunion in Virginia. This was Gary's first trip to VA. He got hooked, just like the fish he caught, and returned several times. We would phone each other quite often, talking about memories of Iowa and Va Tech sports. When we returned to West Branch in the past few years Gary insisted that we stay with Barb & him as "pay back " when they visited us. Becky & I will miss him, especially his up-beat personality, his laughter, his cooking and especially his friendship. Our prayer is that God will comfort and bless Barb, Erica, Angie & Josh and Zach & Ayla , Chris, Ryan and (Sarah), Larry and Brenda and others who are a part of his beloved family.

Great pic of smiling Gary ... just as we will remember him! So sorry for your loss--our loss too, and for so many. Gary was a fun guy whose love of the outdoors accompanied him everywhere. What he did on his acreage was amazing. We were fortunate to see the growth and progress over many years, from simple scratch to glorious fruition. Those trees and bushes are part of his legacy. We will always remember our virgin camping trip to Gary's back yard when our kids were little and it was mostly grass. What an adventure! Brand new tent drenched overnight by thunderstorms. Abandon ship! Next morning we found the tent yards away from where we had pitched it, blown away by high winds yet only slightly damaged. Growing up, besides the baby blue Ford pickup, salmon-colored Pontiac, skeet shooting, rabbit and squirrel hunting, fishing at Jensen's pond, pool and golf, I remember Gary's talent for artistic depictions, including a very warm and fuzzy West Branch Bear that came out of retirement to grace a class reunion T-shirt. Nicely done! In later years, of course, there were fishing trips and annual attendance at Iowa's spring football game. Those will never seem the same without him around to help assess the next lousy QB! -:) Please know you are all in our thoughts and prayers as we reflect on Gary's life and his positive impact on this planet and those around him!
