Catharine Marie Kost Allen, 94, died Monday, May 25, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday, May 28, 2009 at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church in West Branch. Visitation will begin 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the West Branch Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch is in charge of arrangements.

Catharine was born November 2, 1914 in West Branch, Iowa the daughter of Paul and Beulah Kintz Kost. She was 1 of 8 children. She was united in marriage to Dale Leroy Allen on February 2, 1937 in Iowa City.

She helped to build and was a member of St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church in West Branch. Catharine loved her family, praying and reading.

She is survived by her children: Dale (Dorothy) Allen of Laurel, Maryland; Frederick Allen of McCook, Nebraska; and Rosemarie (Tom) McCoy of Muscatine, Iowa. 11 Grandchildren: Daniel, Donald, Dennis, DeeAnn, Troy, Patrick, Timothy, Kristine, Joel, Todd and Thomas. 19 Great grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband Dale, Two sons: Claude and Michael, and 7 brothers and sisters.
