West Liberty, Iowa Lourena M. Beaver, 91, passed away, Wednesday February 3, 2016 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty. Funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday February 8, 2016 at the First Church United in West Liberty. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. Visitation will be held Monday from 9:30 until service time at the church. Lourena was born January 23, 1925 in Cedar County, Iowa the daughter of Frank and Eva LaRue Barkhurst. She was a graduate of West Liberty High School and later the University of Iowa. On July 14, 1944 she was united in marriage to Donald Beaver in West Liberty. She taught country school and was a substitute teacher in Wilton. Lourena and Don farmed North of West Liberty until 1957 moving to “Poverty Knob” South of Atalissa where they spent 27 years before retiring to West Liberty. She was a member of Fortnightly, Investment Club, enjoyed playing cards, dancing, traveling and especially their trip to Alaska on their 50 Anniversary. Her greatest joy was her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Survivors include her Six children: Sue McConnell of Solon, Steve (Shelia) Beaver of Hernando, Mississippi, Jody (Diane) Beaver of West Liberty, Jan Vedepo (Mark Vetter) of Columbus Jct, Alan Beaver (Donna Brun) of Hills and Andrew (Rebecca) Beaver of Wapello. 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, son-in-laws: Jerry McConnell and Ron Vedepo, 3 brothers and a sister.
