Obituary of Maria Del Jesus Elizondo

West Liberty, Iowa

Maria Elizondo, 80, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at her home in West Liberty.

Visitation will be held 5 to 8 P.M. Friday, January 5, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Liberty. Funeral mass will be held 10 A.M. Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Church.  Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in West Liberty. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Maria Elizondo Memorial Fund.

Maria Del Jesus Bravo was born February 7, 1943 in Mission, Texas the daughter of Jose Isivro and Maria Del Jesus (Esquivel) Bravo. On December 30, 1972 she was united in marriage to Jose Martin Elizondo in McAllen, Texas. Maria and Jose had lived in Texas, Chicago and Muscatine before making their home in West Liberty in the early 1980’s. They owned and operated La Mexicana Grocery and Restaurant in West Liberty for many years. Maria was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Liberty and was a very active volunteer there. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, Elvis and making quinceañera dolls.

Survivors include her four children: Jose E. (Erica) Elizondo, West Liberty, Noel M. (Michelle) Elizondo, West Liberty, Roger C. Elizondo, Coralville and Esmeralda Elizondo, Coralville, four grandchildren: Mya, Noel, Cameron and Adrian. Two sisters: Lupe Bravo and Elida Bravo both of Mission, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jose 2001 and several brothers and sisters.
