David J. Bailey, 58, passed away Saturday, August 29, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family, following complications of glioblastoma.

Private family services will be held at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch with burial in the Springdale Cemetery, rural West Branch. Everyone is invited to a Celebration of Life Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at The Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City, Iowa.

David James Bailey was born August 8, 1968, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Karlyene (Hohl) Bailey. He was a graduate of West Liberty High School in 1987. On July 2, 1996, he was united in marriage to Sheri Fountain.

David had been employed with Gringer Ag in West Branch and General Mills in Iowa City. Following the closure of General Mills, he began working at Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids.

He enjoyed restoring farm equipment, riding three- and four-wheelers, and his 1960 Dodge Dart, which was gifted from his great-great-uncle. David was a hard worker and devoted provider for his family. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family and especially enjoyed being “Papa Bailey” to his grandchildren.

David is survived by his wife, Sheri of Solon; five children, Jake Fountain of  North Liberty, Sara (Romario) Torres of Tiffin, Addie Bailey of Williamsburg, Isaac Bailey of Solon, and Nicholas Bailey of Solon; his parents, Thomas and Karlyene Bailey of West Liberty; ten grandchildren, Jonathon, Jacob, Josephine, Wyatt, Xavier, Abel, Isaiah, Everett, Ivy, and Mavis; and three sisters, LeAnn (Brett Westby) Bailey of Gig Harbor, Washington, Janelle (Ken Goody) of West Branch, and Suzanne (Michael) Baltus of Littleton, Colorado.
