Louise McCoy, 83, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.

Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday, August 28, 2026 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday at the First Church United in West Liberty.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hillcrest Family Services and West Liberty Heritage Foundation.

Margarette Louise Stutz was born December 10, 1942 in Kahoka, Missouri the daughter of Bradley and Diena Stutz. Following her graduation from high school she attended Blessing School of Nursing in Quincy, Illinois. On October 10, 1964 she was united in marriage to Robert McCoy. Louise and Bob moved to West Liberty where she worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for several years prior to the birth of their son when she became a stay home mom.

Louise was active in the community and in several local organizations. She was a member of the Garden Club, Aquarius, PTO, and her beloved Sew and Blow, the equivalent of today’s Book Club. When Mike was older she decided to go back into nursing, as the school nurse at the Elementary School, she decided to leave the school nursing job and venture into other areas. She never left her beloved career as a nurse, working at Louis Rich, Muscatine Family Services, the VA, a couple nursing homes, before returning home to Louis Rich and West Liberty foods until her retirement. In her leisure time she still enjoyed gardening, reading, leisure, and serving the community. She acted as a docent at the Depot Museum, and drove people to doctor’s appointments when they were no longer able to do so themselves. She stayed active at First Church United up until Parkinson’s made it difficult for her.

She is survived by her son Mike of West Liberty. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Ron.
