Pablo B. Mays, 46, of Iowa City, formerly of West Liberty, passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the West Liberty Community Center. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. Family and friends are encouraged to wear bright colors in honor of Pablo. Private family burial will be held at Shawver Cemetery in Cedar Bluff. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is caring for Pablo and his family.

Pablo was born on October 17, 1979, in Grand Junction, Colorado, the son of Paul and Cindy (Achenbach) Mays. He graduated from Central Lee High School, Donnellson with the Class of 1998 and later attended Kirkwood Community College. On March 17, 2003, he was united in marriage to Melissa Garner in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together they welcomed their daughter, Jordan. Although their marriage later ended in divorce, they remained forever connected through their daughter. Pablo had lived in Alabama and California as a stay at home parent, before returning to West Liberty in 2022 where he began working in customer support for ACT. 

He loved spending time outdoors, whether golfing, hiking, traveling, or enjoying the next adventure. He discovered a passion for pickleball, where he met his girlfriend , Erin Straub. Pablo faithfully cheered on the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, the Chicago Cubs, and the Kansas City Chiefs. Above all, he treasured the time he spent with his daughter, family and friends.

Pablo is survived by his beloved daughter, Jordan Mays of Wildomar, California; his mother, Cindy (Tony Torres) Mays of West Liberty; his significant other, Erin Straub of Iowa City; two brothers, Chris (Brook) Noring of Elburn, Illinois, and Ian (Karli) Mays of Johnston, Iowa; his maternal grandmother, Gloria Achenbach; his aunts and uncles, Tracey (Don Kelly) Achenbach of Cedar Rapids, Jeff (Linda) Achenbach of Maiden, North Carolina, Rick (Aline) Achenbach of Cedar Bluff, Mary Ellen (Mike) Kuebler of Atlantic, Barbie (Jamie) Fairchild of Kendall, Kansas, and Jim (Sharon) Mays of Iowa City. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Nola, Audrey, Letty, and Sawyer Noring, and Micah and Naomi Mays, along with many extended family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Mays; his paternal grandparents, Wallace and Dorothy Mays; and his maternal grandfather, Richard Achenbach.
