Henry Eugene Schaapveld, 61, of West Liberty, Iowa, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, at the University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown.

Henry was born on February 9, 1965, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Henry and Theresa (Hann) Schaapveld. He graduated from West Liberty High School in 1983 and continued his education at Muscatine Community College.

Growing up on the family farm, Henry developed a strong work ethic, loyal heart, and determination that defined him throughout his life. While attending college, he continued working alongside his father on the family farm, where he discovered his lifelong passion for farming and tractors. He especially enjoyed collecting antique tractors and toy tractors, building a collection from all around. In addition to farming full-time, Henry owned and operated D&S Concrete for many years, taking great pride in the work he did and the relationships he built through his business.

In 2011, Henry met the love of his life, Janice. They were married in August 2018 and shared many wonderful adventures together. They enjoyed spending winter days putting together puzzles and summer days at the Lake of the Ozarks, where they loved fishing. Together, they also traveled to Chicagoland, Newton, and Michigan to attend NASCAR races, creating countless cherished memories along the way.

Henry is survived by his wife, Janice (Everson) Schaapveld; her three children, Adam (Samantha) Heitman, Amanda Heitman, Allison (Blake) Alley; Chosen Son, Mac (Brinn) McCollum. Grandchildren, Addison, Boone and Dutton. He was preceded in death by his Father, Henry “Buddy” Schaapveld, Mother Theresa Schaapveld, Uncle Joseph Hann and Aunt Elizabeth Hann.

Visitation will be held Sunday July 12th, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty, IA. A funeral service will be held on Monday July 13th, 2026 at 10:00am at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Nichols, IA. Interment will immediately follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Nichols, IA. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Henry Schaapveld Memorial Fund.
