Joyce Helen Hollenbeck passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at Mechanicsville Specialty Care in Mechanicsville, IA.
Visitation will take place from 3 PM to 6 PM on Sunday, May 17, 2026 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in West Liberty. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 1 PM on Monday, May 18, 2026 at the Church. Burial will follow at Nichols Cemetery in Nichols, IA. Memorials may be made to the Atalissa Fire Department or toward a bench to be placed at the Muscatine County Fairgrounds.
Joyce was born September 9, 1938 in Cedar Rapids, IA to William & Adelaide (Sterba) Meka. She graduated from Solon High School in 1956. On September 25, 1956 she married Donald Kasper, they had 4 children; Debra, Diane, Danita & Donald Jr. they later divorced.
On February 14, 1985 she married Gayle Hollenbeck, he preceded her in death on December 21, 2017.
She worked various jobs, retiring in 2000 from the United States Postal Service. She worked at the West Liberty and Durant post offices and was the Postmaster in Atalissa.
Joyce was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in West Liberty. She enjoyed getting together with her family. She also enjoyed weekly visits for coffee and eating out with the Red Hats, Farm girls and Bus girls. Joyce was an avid reader and enjoyed camping and going to the Casino.
She is survived by her daughter Deb Carter (Kim Dahlstrom) of Wilton, son-in-law Mike Cunningham of Iowa City, daughter Dee (Grant) Evans of Solon, her son Donald (Dawn) Kasper of Nichols, IA, her grandchildren; Shawn & Chase Carter, Justin (Janelle) & Josh Terhune, LeeAnna Kasper and Eric & Blake Cunningham. Her great grand children; James, Fay & Dorian, Jaiden, Josie & Ivy. Also surviving is a sister Delores Kasper of Solon, brother; Virgil (Gina) Hollenbeck, sister-in-law Bernice Gardner of Nichols, step-daughter Brenda (Dave) James. Several step grandchildren and Several step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gayle, her parents and step father Louis Meka, her daughter Diane Cunningham, her stepsons; Jay & Mitchell Hollenbeck and her brother-in-law Leroy Kasper.
