A celebration of life will take place in the near future

Scott Alan Salemink, 63, of West Branch, passed away March 26, 2026, at Simpson Memorial Home, West Liberty, of complications from a glioblastoma.

Scott was born May 9, 1962, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Willard and Kathleen (Hanft) Salemink. He graduated from West Liberty High School in 1980 and from Hawkeye Institute of Technology (Hawkeye Community College) in 1983. He served in the United States Air Force, 1987-1990, before working at Musco Sports Lighting in Muscatine. He officially joined his father at Twinkle Co in 1993, designing sand and gravel dredges and related equipment until his retirement in November.

Scott married Joanne Word on October 17, 1992, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in West Liberty. The couple had two children, Gabrielle Elizabeth and Maxwell Edward.

Spending time with his family was Scott's greatest joy. He was a fan of Iowa Hawkeye wrestling, the Dallas Cowboys, and Formula 1 racing. He was an avid reader and enjoyed music, particularly Iron Maiden, Van Halen (the Dave years), and Ted Nugent.

Survivors include his wife Joanne; children Gabby, of Coralville, and Max, of West Branch; his parents Willard and Kathleen of West Liberty; sisters Lisa (John) Musgrave of Waterloo and Lori Leggins of West Liberty; nephews and nieces Brock (Mindy) Leggins of Indianola, Bryce (Kristen) Leggins of West Liberty, Josh Musgrave of Waterloo, Katie (Alex) Eaton of Iowa City, and Thomas (Kelsie) Musgrave of Waterloo; seven great-nieces and nephews; and many special cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Lawrence and Geneva Salemink, and Hale and Gertrude Hanft; his sister Jennifer Salemink; and brother-in-law Tim Leggins.

The family would like to thank Vanessa Smith and all the staff of Iowa City Hospice and Simpson Memorial Home for their compassion and care during Scott's final days. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to either Iowa City Hospice or Simpson Memorial Home to honor Scott's memory.
