Maria Del Rosario Gauzin Machado, 68, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Visitation will be held Sunday, February 8, 2026, from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Liberty. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, February 9, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in West Liberty.

Maria was born May 1, 1957, in Emiliano Zapata, Durango, Mexico, the daughter of Fernando Gaucin Zavala and Nolberta Chavarria. She was united in marriage to Jose Victor Machado Martinez, who preceded her in death on May 23, 2005.

Maria devoted her life to her family, as a stay-at-home mother and babysitter for over 20 years. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Liberty.

She enjoyed cooking, spending time with her children, and especially cherished her grandchildren. Maria loved traveling to Mexico and Texas to visit family. She was a wonderful mother to her seven children, and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Known for her caring nature and warm smile, Maria will be deeply missed by all.

Maria is survived by her children: Graciela (Jacinto) of Tulia, Texas; Alma (Herlindo Jr.); Jose Victor Jr.; Maria Guadalupe (Nelson); Marisela (Jose), Manuel, and Veronica, all of West Liberty. Grandchildren include: Yadira, Anay, Mariano, Joanna, Pedro, Jacinto Jr., Victoria, Sergio, Joselyn, Isabella, Jose, and Victor. Great-grandchildren include: Jonathan, Kailany, and Lizbeth.

She is also survived by her siblings: Juan Gaucin, Enrique Gaucin, Jose F. Gaucin, and Engracia Gaucin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her siblings: Jose Manuel, Fermina, Samuel, Silvino, and Tomas.
