Ruth, Audrey Kofoed, commonly known as Audrey to her friends and family, age 94, passed away on January 7, 2026 at Crestview Specialty Care Center in West Branch.

A private family burial service has been scheduled.

Audrey was born March 9, 1931, in Iowa City, to Lawrence and Mable (Phelps) Rummells. She graduated from West Branch High School in 1949. She attended Cornell College, Mt Vernon, IA for one year and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1952. She taught first grade at West Branch Community Schools from 1952 to 1955. She married John Kofoed on October 25, 1952 in West Branch. They lived all of their lives in West Branch where they raised their three children.

Audrey devoted her life to her family and to her community. Audrey was a life-long member of the West Branch United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a trustee of Cookson Memorial Home and Trustee and Treasurer of the Herbert Hoover Presidential Foundation. She, her husband John, and others helped write the historical book, "West Branch: The First 150 Years" in 2001. Audrey received the Governors Volunteer Award in 2016, while a member of Main Street-West Branch.

Survivors include her three children: daughters, Karen Suchomel and Laurie (Bobby Sexton) Dauber, son Chris (Lisa) Kofoed, all of West Branch; six grandchildren, Jason (Michelle) Kofoed, Adam (Ashley) Kofoed, Dana (Jay) Shultz, Linsie (Cody) Anderson, Mitch (Lindsey) Moon, and Dylan Kofoed; and ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, John, in 2012; sister and brother in law, Barbara and John Thompson; son in law, Dan Dauber; sister in law and brother in law, Ruth and Walter Friedhoff; and brother in law, Owen Kofoed.
