Dwight DeWayne Iles was born September 7, 1956, in Webster County, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Audrey (Haub) Iles. He graduated from Central Webster Community Schools in 1975 and later earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Iowa. On August 12, 1978, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Hafner at City Park in Iowa City.

He enjoyed hiking, raising guinea fowl, growing pumpkins, and loved traveling and cruising extensively with his family. Together they visited all 50 states, countless national parks, and many historic monuments—adventures he continued with his grandchildren in recent years. Several of his most memorable adventures included driving to the Arctic Circle via the ALCAN Highway and cruising through the Panama Canal.

He coached his daughters’ basketball teams throughout their school years, shared his voice in the church choir, and enjoyed many memorable backpacking adventures with his brothers-in-law.

He is survived by his wife, Carol of West Branch; daughter, Brittany (Nathan) Simons of Johnston, Iowa; son-in-law, Lawrence Day II of West Branch; and five beloved grandchildren: Rowen, Rhys, and Ryah Day, and Payton and Tate Simons. He is also survived by his brother, Ronald (Greta) Iles of Clarinda, Iowa, and his sister, Linda (Glenn) Price of Webster City, Iowa.

Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Megan Day (October 6, 2023), his brother-in-law Larry Hafner, and his in-laws Gene and Mary Hafner.
