Obituary of Mayra Hernandez Vargas

Mayra “Meowa” Hernandez Vargas, 39, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025.

Mayra was born on September 27, 1985, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Sergio Hernandez and Marina Vargas Aranda. She was a graduate of East Hall High School in Gainesville, Georgia, and later made her home in Iowa.

She was employed at Alpla in Iowa City. Mayra loved singing and playing video games with friends and family. A fan of anime, she often talked about her favorite actors and voice actors and enjoyed a bowl of ramen and a can of Coke.

She is survived by her daughter, Lily V. Ceron. She also leaves behind her mother, Marina Vargas Hernandez; brothers, Eduardo Hernandez and Alejandro Hernandez; sister, Marina De la Cruz; grandfather, Miguel Vargas. And boyfriend, Atraeyu Bruce Personius. She will also be missed by her dear friends, Danny Acuna and Imane.
