Obituary of Mike Severson

Michael Robert Severson passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on early Saturday, April 5, 2025.

Mike was born on December 2, 1961 to Robert and June (Grotewold) Severson in Sioux Falls, SD.  They lived in Larchwood, IA until Mike was 4 years old, prior to West Liberty, IA.  He was a graduate of the class of 1980 from West Liberty High School.

He worked at Ron Alpen Ford for the last 28 years of his life.

Mike married the love of his life, Marci Schabilion, on May 27, 2003 and became a bonus dad to Riley and Logan.

Mike loved spending time with family and friends and was an avid golfer.  He loved sports and all things Hawkeyes along with vacationing in Florida.

Mike is survived by wife, Marci; children Riley Vaughan, Logan (Aubrey) Vaughan and a granddaughter, Isla Vaughan.  Mike is also survived by his mother, June Severson; sisters Shelly Hons and Mindy (Dean) Heick.  He is also survived by in laws:  Michael (Kelly) Schabilion, Mitchel (Shelley) Schabilion, Mark Schabilion, and Melisa (Todd) Plinke.  Mike is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Severson; brother in law, Mark Hons; mother in law, Gloria Schabilion; sister in law, Michele Williams and brother in law, Matt Schabilion.

Mike will always be remembered for clapping his hands and saying “it’s my birthday.”

He will be missed by all.

The family invites friends and family to join them in a celebration of life at the West Liberty Country Club on Friday April 11, 2025 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.   Please come share your stories and memories in Mike’s honor.
