
Obituary of M. Lotene Poulsen

M. Lotene Poulsen, 96, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.
Visitation will be held 5 to 7 P.M. Friday, March 14, 2025 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. In lieu of flowers a memorials may be made to Camp Courageous or West Liberty Rescue Unit. Private family committal of Lotene’s cremains will be held in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty.
Mildred Lotene Weinard was born November 5, 1928 on the Weinard family farm near West Liberty the daughter of Carl and Gertrude (Parsons) Weinard. She attended Hazel Dell #2 country school and was a graduate of West Liberty High School in the class of 1946.
On October 9, 1949 she was united in marriage to William Poulsen in Iowa City. Lotene had been employed with Procter and Gamble in Iowa City for many years retiring in 1989. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Lotene spent many hours volunteering at the West Liberty Elementary School helping children with reading. She enjoyed vacation trips, genealogy research with her husband Bill and spending time with her family. Lotene twice received the Governors award for volunteering.
Survivors include her children: Steven (Chris) Poulsen and Dennis Poulsen all of West Liberty. Grandchildren: Amanda Shield, Kyle (Melissa), Carl (Angie), Kent, and Riley Poulsen. Great children: Kane Shield, Reagan, Haidyn, Harper and Leo Poulsen. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill in 2010, and siblings: Harold, Carl Jr., LaVerne (Chub), LaWayne, Dorothy Stalder, Arlene Pohren and Loretta Marchesano.
