Iowa City, Iowa Marlovene "Marly" Michel, 74, died Saturday May 31, 2008 at Bickford Cottage, Iowa City. Funeral mass will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Liberty with Rev. Dennis Martin officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 5 to 8 P.M. at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty where a wake service will be held at 8 P.M. Monday. Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, rural Hills. Memorials may be made to Amenity Hospice, Bickford Cottage or St. Joseph Catholic Church. Marly was born December 16, 1933 in Fort Dodge, Iowa the daughter of Dorothy Vincent. She attended an all girls catholic school in Van Nuys, California. Following her graduation she attended the University of Iowa taking classes in art and later Mercy School of Nursing where she took X-Ray training which she later taught until her marriage. On April 7, 1956 she was united in marriage to Norbert Michel in Iowa City. Following her marriage she operated a fused glass shop and also along with Marilyn Johnson owned and operated the Craft Corner in Iowa City. For 20 years Marly worked in the Business Office at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics until her retirement. Mike and Marly lived in Iowa City for many years moving to West Liberty in 1986, in 2006 they moved to Bickford Cottage to make their home. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Marly was a great supporter of her children and grandchildren's activities and events, she especially liked to follow her son "Hatchet Jack" during his semi professional wrestling career. She loved animals and children; when pets or children were brought to Bickford Cottage they were taken to see her. Marly enjoyed sending cards on special occasions and she always drew a picture of the occasion on the envelope. Survivors include her husband Norbert "Mike" Michel of Iowa City. Two sons: Phillip (Marci) Michel of Solon and Jack Michel and his fiancée Sharon Green of West Liberty. Two grandchildren: CJ and Hailee also survive.
