West Liberty, Iowa Ella Mae Olson, 83, died Friday, June 4, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00PM on Monday, June 7, 2010 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Burial will be in the North Prairie Cemetery in West Liberty. A memorial fund has been established. Ella Mae was born in Poweshiek County on October 24, 1926, the daughter of Mathias and Ida Hauersperger Upah. She was united in marriage to Gerald Olson on February 5, 1945 in Brooklyn, Iowa. She retired from ACT in Iowa City, after working there for more than 20 years. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in West Liberty, where she was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Smothers of Montezuma, Iowa, son Craig (Patty) Olson of North Liberty, Iowa and daughter Sandi (Steve) Jennings of West Branch, Iowa. She is also survived by her grandchildren Tony and Troy Hess, Patrick Smothers, Mitchell and Michael Jennings, Ashley Olson and Becky Dudrey, and great grandchildren Brynlee Dudrey, Stone Wildman, Dylan Olson, Trent Smothers and Kaitlyn Hess. She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald, sisters Eva and Dorothy, brothers Leonard, Gerald, and Lester, son-in-law Jack Smothers and grandchildren Todd Hess, Deborah Hess, and Brad Jennings.
