West Branch, Iowa Neal Kane, 68, battled Multiple Myeloma (a cancer of the blood and bone marrow) for 15 years. The cancer scored a knockout as Neal passed away on August 1, 2016 at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City. Funeral service will be held 2:30 P.M. Friday, August 5, 2016 at the Friends Church in West Branch. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 7 P.M. at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Burial will be in the West Branch Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Multiple Myeloma Research. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. Neal was born on March 1, 1948. He was the son of Alex and Beatrice (Radin) Kane. Neal attended Shorewood (Wisconsin) High School, graduating in 1966. Neal received a BA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1971. He attended the University of Iowa for graduate studies and received a Ph.D. in Psychology in 1977. Neal was united in marriage to Lyn (Kessler) Kane on June 14, 1970. He felt that Lyn has been “the most caring person I have ever met. I am the luckiest man in the world to have met Lyn.” Neal started a handyman service in 1985. Through this work, he met many wonderful people. Most recently, he worked at the University of Iowa as a research assistant in Dermatology and Cardiovascular Diseases. Neal is a member of the West Branch Friend’s Church. Neal enjoyed his dogs Willie and Sammy. He also enjoyed gardening, tinkering with computers, reading and, most importantly, spending time with his family. He is grateful to his son Justin, for the joy Justin brought to his life. Neal was very grateful for the medical care he received from Dr. Raymond Hohl at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and from Dr. Martha Lacy at the Mayo Clinic. He greatly appreciated the support and encouragement that Dr. Hohl and Dr. Lacy provided. Neal is remembered by his wife, Lyn, his son Justin of West Branch. He is also survived by his brother Howard (Northwood, IL). He was preceded in death by his sister Kay Katz and his parents Beatrice and Alex Kane. Neal wanted it known that he was a part of planning his services and the wrote the obituary.
