West Liberty, Iowa Betty J. Petersen, 94, of West Liberty passed away Monday, May 16, 2016 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Thursday May 19, 2016 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in West Liberty with visitation 1 hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the West Branch Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or the Simpson Memorial Home Activities Dept. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. She was born November 27, 1921 in Waterloo, Iowa the daughter of Roselle G. and Mabel A. Goranson Ayers. On December 21, 1940 she was united in marriage to Ernest Petersen at Bethany Lutheran Church in West Branch. She and her husband had owned the West Liberty Locker for 17 years and prior to that had operated the skating rink in West Liberty. Betty was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in West Liberty and the a member of EZ Wheelers #210 Coachman camping club. She enjoyed camping and square dancing with the Hayshakers. Survivors include three children Bob (Sandra) Petersen of Atalissa, Barbara (Lyndon) Stratton of Leesburg, Florida and Jim (Faye) Petersen of West Liberty. 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Ernie.
